Facelift is one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures, but it is also one of the most misunderstood. Mr Miles Banwell is here to set the record straight. Read on to find out what exactly facelift can and cannot do.
It can improve sunken cheeks and a slackened jawline.
Facelift addresses aging signs on the middle and lower facial regions. It is a great choice if you are bothered by hollowed or sunken cheeks that have flattened over time, or loose skin along the jawline. Following facelift, the cheeks appear more lifted, rounder and youthful. The jawline is sleeker and better defined.
It cannot treat sagging eyelids or brows.
Facelift does not correct aging signs in the upper facial area, such as the eyelids and brow. However, it’s not uncommon for facelift patients to combine the procedure with eyelid surgery, brow lift or both. Eyelid surgery removes puffy bags under the eyes and tightens loose or saggy upper eyelids. Brow lift elevates a saggy brow to a more youthful and pleasant position.
It can smooth out lines and wrinkles.
A byproduct of tightening lax skin and tissues is the smoothing out of wrinkles and creases. Facelift can soften the appearance of creases along the base of the nose and mouth, wrinkles beneath the eyelids, and horizontal neck bands.
It cannot treat age spots, hyperpigmentation or poor texture.
Certain forms of sun damage, such as age spots, hyperpigmentation, dry skin and poor texture, cannot be treated with facelift or any surgical procedure. If you’re bothered by any of these aging signs, you may benefit from a non-surgical treatment like chemical peels or laser skin resurfacing, both of which can be paired with facelift for more transformative results.
It can turn back the clock.
When performed by an expert plastic surgeon, facelift can turn back the clock and effectively take 10 to 15 years off your appearance. Results should be noticeable, yet natural, meaning you should look like a younger and more refreshed version of yourself.
It cannot stop the aging process.
Facelift results can last for many years but cannot stop the aging process altogether. Your skin will continue to age immediately after facelift and it is up to you to maintain the results. Practicing good skin care habits, including moisturizing and applying sunscreen regularly, can go a long way in prolonging your results. Undergoing injectable treatments with Botox or dermal fillers can also help maintain your rejuvenated appearance.
