Liposuction and CoolSculpting are two popular fat removal cosmetic procedures with distinct differences. At Attune Clinic, Mr Miles Banwell meets and works with each individual patient to determine the best treatment for his or her cosmetic goals.
Read on as Mr Banwell compares liposuction and CoolSculpting in detail.
How Does Liposuction Work?
Liposuction is a surgical procedure performed at an accredited surgical facility. Anesthesia is used to ensure the patient does not feel any pain during surgery. To begin, tiny incisions are made in the treatment area. A thin cannula is inserted through the incisions and used to break down the fatty tissue, which is then removed through gentle suction. Once the procedure is complete, the incisions are closed with sutures and a compression garment is placed on top to support the tissues as they heal.
The initial recovery period for liposuction can last one to two weeks, depending on the extent of surgery. Patients will need to avoid physical activities during this time and take time off work to recover.
How Does CoolSculpting Work?
CoolSculpting is a non-surgical procedure that can be performed in-office. It does not involve incisions or anesthesia. During treatment, the treatment area will be placed between two cooling panels, which will freeze the targeted fat cells. You may feel intense cold and tingling — this is only temporary. You will remain awake and comfortable throughout the treatment. Many of Mr Banwell’s patients choose to read, listen to music or nap during treatment.
There is no downtime with Coolsculpting. Immediately after treatment, patients are able to return to work and other regular activities.
What Body Areas Do Liposuction and CoolSculpting Treat?
Liposuction can reduce fat in the abdomen, waist, hips, back, buttocks, thighs, knees, upper arms, chin, face and neck. CoolSculpting is used to remove fat in the abdomen, flanks, knees, neck and upper arms.
How Do the Results Compare?
Both liposuction and CoolSculpting are safe and effective. However, it is important to note that results with liposuction are more dramatic as it can remove more than CoolSculpting. That said, CoolSculpting can be a great option for patients with minimal fat who would rather avoid surgery. The initial results with liposuction can be seen almost immediately after treatment but it can take up to a year for the final results to become visible. Results with CoolSculpting can take several weeks to become noticeable. Final results with CoolSculpting may take up to three months to materialize.
