Facial implants have full regulatory approval and are safe. But because they are long-lasting, facial implants should only be placed by a highly trained and skilled facial plastic surgeon. With years of experience, Mr Miles Banwell is a trusted facial rejuvenation expert for patients who seek safe and natural-looking facial implant results. By skillfully placing implants, Mr Banwell can successfully enhance the harmony of the facial features and create a youthful and attractive appearance.
Are You a Candidate for a Facial Implant?
You may be a candidate for a cheek or chin implant if you want to:
- Restore fullness to cheeks that have become hollow due to genetics or aging
- Accentuate the upper cheeks
- Create or restore a well-defined jaw or chin
- Obtain a more balanced and proportionate overall facial appearance
- Improve your facial appearance with a long-lasting alternative to facial fillers (which temporarily restore volume to facial features)
Prior to your procedure, Mr Banwell will meet with you individually to discuss your treatment plan. He will carefully evaluate your bone structure and facial contours, as well as listen to your aesthetic concerns and goals. Using this information, Mr Banwell will create a personalized treatment plan for you. Depending on the desired outcome, your treatment plan may consist of the placement of facial implants alone or combining facial implants with other facial rejuvenation procedures such as facelift, eyelid surgery or brow lift. The goal of treatment is to create the most natural-looking and aesthetically pleasing results.
During your consultation, we will share before and after photos of other patients whom have had similar procedures.
The placement of facial implants involves creating several incisions. Mr Banwell is meticulous when creating and placing these incisions. He will place the incisions in inconspicuous locations. Once the implants have been placed, Mr Banwell will close the incisions with sutures and dress the treatment area with a gentle compression garment.
The initial recovery period for facial implant surgery can take one to two weeks. Swelling and bruising are normal and should subside a few days after surgery. Any residual bruising after that can be easily concealed with makeup. Mr Banwell can also prescribe oral pain medication to minimize any post-op discomfort. Follow-up appointments with Mr Banwell are of utmost importance so the surgeon can monitor your healing progress and make any modifications or recommendations as needed to ensure your recovery is a successful one.
What can I expect during my consultation?
During your consultation, Mr Banwell will evaluate your facial anatomy and discuss your cosmetic needs and goals in detail with you. He may also take photographs from different angles and use digital imaging to allow you to see what results will look like using different implant shapes, sizes and projections. Using this technology and your input, Mr Banwell will plan out the stages of your procedure. He will also discuss and address any questions or concerns you may have regarding the surgery and the pre- and post-op stages.
Does the procedure hurt?
Facial implant surgery is not painful, as it is performed under anesthesia to ensure your full comfort. Following surgery, your surgeon can prescribe you pain medication to minimize post-op discomfort.
How much time will I have to take off work?
You may need to take anywhere between one and two weeks off from work after facial implant surgery. The exact amount of time you will need to take off will depend on the extent of surgery and your personal healing progress. Mr Banwell will advise you on how much time to take off your normal routine after meeting with you in person.
Is the procedure reversible?
Yes, the procedure is reversible. Facial implants can be removed or replaced if the patient is unhappy with the size or appearance of their implant, or if they experience a rare complication.
Will I have scars?
The incisions for chin and cheek implants do result in scars but they are typically very small and placed in discreet locations. For chin implants, the incisions are usually placed underneath the chin. Incisions for cheek implants are typically made on the inside of the mouth and/or on the lower eyelid crease. Mr Banwell is well-trained and knowledgeable on the best incision techniques to minimize the appearance of visible scars and deliver the most aesthetically pleasing results.
When will I see results?
Initial results with facial implant surgery will be visible immediately after treatment. However, it could take up to a year for the final results to materialize. This is how long it takes for residual swelling to subside.
What are my alternative options?
The most known alternative to facial implant surgery is dermal filler treatment. Dermal fillers restore volume to flat or sunken facial features, including the cheeks and along the jawline. Treatment with fillers is minimally invasive compared to facial implant surgery. Fillers do not require surgery, incisions, anesthesia or extensive recovery. It is important to note that results with dermal fillers are temporary and typically not as dramatic as with facial implants.
Mr Banwell can discuss the advantages and disadvantages of implants and dermal fillers in detail with you during a personal consultation. He will advise you on the most appropriate method based on your cosmetic needs, goals and personal preferences.
