Do you look older than how you feel? Have premature signs of aging begun to surface on your face, despite your best beauty efforts? If so, undergoing facelift surgery can help. Facelift surgery is considered to be the gold standard in facial rejuvenation because it addresses various signs of facial aging in the middle and lower facial areas, and therefore provides more comprehensive results. The procedure is often combined with neck lift to enhance harmony between the lower portions of the face. When performed by an expert facial plastic surgeon, facelift and neck lift can take 10 years off a person’s appearance!
As a seasoned plastic surgeon, Mr Miles Banwell is highly sought out by patients who wish to turn back the clock. By combining superb skill and training, Mr Banwell has helped these patients look as youthful as they feel.
Can I Benefit from Facelift and Neck Lift?
You may be a candidate for facelift and neck lift if you have any of the following:
- Sagging skin in the middle and lower facial areas
- Deep creases
- Wrinkles and fine lines on the face and neck
- “Marionette lines” (deep creases around the mouth and nose)
- Displaced fat and muscle tone loss on the face and neck
- Horizontal bands on the neck
- “Double chin” (submental fat)
No two facelift/neck lift procedures are the same. Before your procedure, Mr Banwell will meet with you to discuss your aesthetic needs and goals and examine your facial features. Depending on this information, Mr Banwell may recommend combining facelift/neck lift with other facial rejuvenation procedures such as eyelid surgery, laser skin care or dermal fillers in order to produce the most optimal results. During your consultation, we will share before and after photos of other patients whom have had similar procedures.
What Can I Expect from the Procedure?
Facelift and neck lift are performed under general anesthesia. During the facelift portion of the procedure, Mr Banwell will create incisions, typically in the hairline, beginning at the temples, extending down to the earlobes and if necessary, the lower scalp. Through the incisions, Mr Banwell will tighten the facial tissues and muscles in the middle to lower facial areas. He will restore lost volume (via microfat grafting) and reposition tissue before excising loose skin. He then re-drapes the remaining skin more tightly on the facial structures.
For neck lift, Mr Banwell begins by making incisions around the earlobes and if necessary, an additional incision underneath the chin. He then tightens the neck muscles and removes fatty deposits with liposuction. Loose skin on the chin and neck are removed and the remaining skin is tightened for a smoother and leaner neck and jawline. The incisions are closed with sutures and the treatment areas are dressed with soft bandages.
Initial side effects following facelift and neck lift include swelling, soreness, bruising and discoloration. These symptoms are temporary and can be controlled with prescription oral pain medication. Bed rest is key during the first two weeks of recovery; Mr Banwell advises you to rest with your head elevated (even when sleeping) as much as possible. You will also need to avoid exercise and other strenuous activities during this time period. Mr Banwell will schedule several follow-up appointments to monitor your healing progress. Based on your progress, he will determine when it is safe for you to resume your normal activities including work, exercise and socializing.
